A man facing charges after he crashed Wednesday while fleeing police, killing a Huntsville woman, was on probation on federal charges at the time of the wreck.
Franklin Ledel Blevins, 29, of Fort Payne was taken to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga to be treated for injuries after the wreck, Fort Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum said.
Upon Blevins' release, he will face charges that include possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia as well as charges stemming from the wreck, the chief said.
Leanna Ivey, 32, of Huntsville, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. She was a passenger in the truck Blevins was driving in an attempt to elude police, Bynum said. The incident began early Wednesday morning after police were called to a domestic dispute at a home on Godfrey Avenue North.
Blevins, a suspect in the dispute, was seen leaving the house and police attempted to stop him. Blevins' truck went airborne and struck a tree on the passenger side, where Ivey was sitting, Bynum said.
Authorities said they believe Blevins and Ivey were dating. Blevins had a record for a variety of offenses, Bynum said.
State Troopers are investigating the crash.
