Gadsden Police and the Etowah County Sheriff's Office say they have broken up what may have been a burglary ring.
They've recovered guns and merchandise worth up to $20,000 dollars they say burglars grabbed from homes throughout Gadsden and Etowah County. They also believe some power tools, a crossbow, and a large amount of jewelry are all stolen property, worth a lot of money.
"I'm going to say, 10 to $20,000, based on some of the jewelry appraisals and our estimates to what some of the firearms are worth," Gadsden Police Lt. Mike Moon said.
Some of the items may have already been pawned.
"One of our detectives was able to obtain one of the rings that had been pawned, take it back to the jeweler that did the appraisal, and that jeweler was able to positively that ring as belonging to the victim," Moon said.
The other lead was a tip that led police to these guns, and convinced them the two cases were related.
Police believe the thieves emptied jewelry boxes into comforters, also taken from homes, and hauled them away.
Police also say the thieves, in their rush, also got some sentimental items, like these old photographs, and this little league pin, as well as a University of Alabama ring. Police believe all of these could play very important roles in tracking down the owners of this merchandise.
Detectives also think some service pins from Centre Manufacturing in Cherokee County could lead them back to a burglary victim.
So far two suspects are in custody for parole violations, but there are no charges yet from these cases.
If you think some of the items recovered could be yours call Gadsden Police.
