A map shows where a dozen vehicle breaks-ins were reported during the Labor Day weekend
(WDNG) - Labor Day weekend sees another round of vehicle break-ins across the Model City. Anniston police on Tuesday were investigating a dozen different reported vehicle break-ins stretching from the Wellborn area in the west to the hospital district in the east.
Anniston police Capt. Allen George said in the case of previous strings of similar crimes, teenagers are often the culprits. Police reports indicate the 12 vehicles targeted over the weekend did not have any signs of forced entry and George said those vehicles were probably left unlocked.
Seven of those reported break-ins saw items stolen from the vehicles, including nearly $300 worth of tools from a 2010 Dodge Ram on Lockwood Ave. and more than $1,100 in cash from a 2006 Ford Fusion on W. 18th St. Police reports indicate five of the vehicles targeted didn't have items reported stolen. George said those vehicles would have shown obvious signs of tampering such as glove boxes or consoles left open.
George said the Labor Day weekend string of vehicle break-ins are being investigated together and that a potential suspect may have been identified. Two individuals were arrested in August in connection with a similar string of vehicle break-ins in recent weeks. Potential suspects in the Labor Day weekend crimes could face charges of felony breaking and entering a vehicle.
