(WDNG) - Very few people noticed a small earthquake that struck Walker County on Friday morning. The U.S. Geological Survey reports a magnitude 2.3 earthquake shook the ground in Walker County about 7 miles west of Jasper.
Law enforcement agencies in the county, including Jasper and Carbon Hill police departments, had not received any calls about the quake and no damage or injuries have been reported.
A small magnitude 2.0 earthquake near Corinth, Miss was also recorded by the U.S. Geological Survey around 7 a.m., just an hour-and-a-half before the Walker County quake.
Friday’s earthquake in Walker County was the fourth in the state this year and the third in Walker County. According to the USGS, the strongest quake in the state in 2013 was on March 2. That magnitude 2.8 earthquake was also located in Walker County, about 3 miles south of Friday’s recorded quake.
