A little girl attacked Friday night by a dog in Jasper remains in critical condition at Children's of Alabama Hospital.
Neighbors say they found the little girl, who is around 5 or 6 years old, in a ditch after hearing her screams. It happened at approximately 7 p.m. on Preston Avenue.
Leconyea Duncan said she found the child balled up and bleeding. Another neighbor said that the dog got loose from a chain and attacked the girl.
Someone tried to beat the dog off of the child but that didn't work. The same person then got a gun and fired into the air, which finally made the dog stop and run away.
