(WDNG) - A convenience store owner shot during a late night robbery attempt is listed in stable condition at an Anniston hospital. Anniston police on Friday are investigating a robbery from the convenience store on the 700 block of W. 15th Street that reportedly occurred shortly after midnight.
Anniston police Capt. Allen George said the store’s 38-year-old owner and another individual were the only people in the store when three black males approached to rob the store.
George said the individual fled and left the owner, who reportedly got into a scuffle with one of the suspects. A second suspect allegedly shot the owner in the torso. George said the owner then drove himself home where he fell to the floor from his injury.
The victim's mother reportedly called 911 and he was taken to Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery. George said the man was listed in stable condition in the RMC intensive care unit.
George was unaware if the three suspects fled the store with any items. Police reports indicate suspects in the case could face felony first-degree assault and felony first-degree robbery charges.
