The suspicious substance found in an envelope at the state attorney general’s office last week has been identified as dried toothpaste. The Montgomery Advertiser reports Dallas County Sheriff Harris Huffman says an inmate at the Dallas County Jail used toothpaste to seal a previously used envelope when sending a letter to the office of Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange.
According to The Advertiser, the letter was reportedly complaining about the jail. Huffman says the toothpaste had dried and turned into a powder. That powder was unidentifiable by office workers and led to the Aug. 14 evacuation of the attorney general’s office in downtown Montgomery.
Police, fire and HazMat teams had several streets blocked in downtown Montgomery for hours last Wednesday while the incident was being isolated and investigated.
