One sheriff in the state has launched a legal battle over salary and gets backing from the state attorney general. The Cullman Times reports an opinion issued by Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange indicates that first-term Cullman County Sheriff Mike Rainey is entitled to the same pay has his predecessor.
The decision reportedly means that county officials will have to work with Rainey to calculate how much back pay he is owed since assuming office in January of 2011. According to The Times, Rainey asked Strange if he was entitled to receive the same base salary as the former sheriff, who reportedly left office making just over $67,000 annually.
The Cullman Times reports Rainey currently makes nearly $4,000 per year less, or $63,000 annually.
