A ban on firearms on the University of Alabama campus will continue despite new gun laws in the state. The Tuscaloosa News reports the school released a revised weapons policy on Friday which covers possession of weapons on the campus by students, employees and visitors.
The revised policy was reportedly in response to the new state law that sought to clarify where and how gun owners could carry and transport firearms. According to The News, the school’s revised policy continues a ban on possession, transportation or use of firearms and other dangerous weapons.
University spokesperson Cathy Andreen tells the newspaper that having a gun on campus will continue to be a violation of student conduct. The News reports that university police does provide temporary storage for firearms lawfully possessed by students at its headquarters.
Campuses in Birmingham and Huntsville also posted similar policies late last week.
