(WDNG) - Detours on a main Talladega County thoroughfare will become the norm for about three weeks. The Alabama Department of Transportation last week began repairing a sinkhole on Alabama Highway 21 in Talladega County.
An ALDOT release says the work is expected to take about 21 days and will require all four lanes of Highway 21 be closed between Talladega County Road 203 and State Route 76. Workers from Newell Roadbuilders Inc. of Hope Hull, Alabama will reportedly be working around the clock to remove unstable material and rebuild the roadway.
Traffic will be detoured to U.S. Highway 280 just south off Sylacauga. The project is expected to cost around $9.5 million.
