Alabama's unemployment rate is at its lowest point in five years. The rate stands at 6.3%, down from 6.5% in June and well below the 7.6% recorded one year ago.
Governor Robert Bentley has made putting Alabamians back to work his top priority. The governor has yet to receive a payday since taking office in January 2011. He vowed not to draw a salary until unemployment in the state reached 5.2%.
The county with the lowest unemployment rate in July was Shelby at 4.2%. Wilcox county has the highest unemployment at 16.3%.
