Homewood pastor Rev. Richard Shahan has been placed on paid leave following his wife's murder in their home.
Rev. Shahan's wife Karen Shahan was found dead in the family home on Hugh Circle on July 24. Police have still not said how she was killed.
"While Rev. Shahan is dealing with this tragic event, he is taking paid administrative leave to give him the time and space to focus on his family and healing at this time," First Baptist Church of Birmingham posted on their Facebook page on Saturday, Aug. 10.
Rev. Shahan is a children and families pastor at FBC Birmingham. The church's Facebook post also stated that their church family would continue to pray for everyone affected by Karen Shahan's death.
Rev. Shahan was held in Homewood police custody for two days last week, but was never charged. He was released on Friday night.
Police say they have not ruled out anyone as a suspect.
