A $250,000 grant awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley will help drive development of a service station and truck plaza that will employ 65 people and provide additional commerce for the city of Lincoln.
The Community Development Block Grant awarded by Bentley will assist WilcoHess, a North Carolina-based company, to construct a fueling station complex that will include a Wendy's restaurant and Dunkin' Donuts. The complex will be built off Interstate 20 near the Alabama Highway 77 interchange in the vicinity of the Talladega Superspeedway and Honda Manufacturing of Alabama.
"Providing jobs for Alabamians is a priority of my administration and our team stands ready to assist whenever possible," Bentley said. "I commend the community and business leaders who are working to expand services, jobs and development along this interstate corridor."
CDBG funding will provide water and sewer services needed for the development. The Alabama Department of Transportation will make road improvements.
City officials say that the water, sewer and road additions could attract additional retail business to the area.
Bentley notified Mayor Claude Kitchin of the grant's approval. The city is supplying local funding of $95,343.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development allocates CDBG funds to Alabama. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs reviews grant applications and determines which projects to recommend to the governor for approval.
ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, workforce development, recreation, energy conservation and water resource management.
