Homewood police have released Rev. Richard Shahan after 48 hours of questioning regarding his wife's murder.
The 53-year-old associate pastor at the First Baptist Church of Birmingham willingly went to investigators Wednesday evening to answer questions regarding the brutal murder of his 52-year-old wife, Karen Shahan. Based on information gathered in the interview, detectives continued to hold the pastor for further questioning before eventually releasing him tonight.
While authorities didn't charge Shahan, he hasn't been ruled out as a person of interest in the case.
According to the 48-hour rule for city police departments nationwide, a probable cause determination must be made within two days of a warrantless arrest.
