Tomorrow marks the start of a new year for some private schools. The big question remains, how will the Alabama Accountability Act impact them?
State superintendent Dr. Tommy Bice says there's still room for improvement with the accountability act.
"We're working now to make sure that it's implementation is as seamless as possible," says Bice. "It's a learning curve. We'll make mistakes and others will along the way."
There still seems to be a lot of confusion regarding the accountability act and that many parents may not know what options are available.
"Right now I think there's a lack of awareness about the opportunities that are at hand. Many people have not asked a lot of questions about this legislation," says McDonald. "As it stands right now, I think awareness is still very low."says Reverend John McDonald. McDonald is the director of the Department of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Birmingham.
Dr. Bice says while there's still a learning curve with the new act. It's important not to lose sight of its purpose.
"We just need to narrow in that focus in doing what's right for children, once you do that you typically don't make mistakes," says Bice.
