Gov. Robert Bentley issued a proclamation, Saturday, for a special election in the state's First Congressional District.
The seat was previously held by Jo Bonner, who recently resigned to accept a position with the University of Alabama.
A special primary election will be Tuesday, September 24. Candidates qualifying for the two major political parties must do so by Monday, Aug. 5 by 5:00 p.m.
All third party candidates, or independent candidates, need to fill out paperwork with the Secretary of State by Tuesday, Sept. 24.
