A gun law passed by Alabama lawmakers earlier goes into effect Thursday and allows gun owners more freedom with taking firearms to the workplace.
The Associated Press reports Alabamians with concealed carry licenses will be allowed to keep firearms locked in their vehicles while at work beginning Thursday. Licensed hunters will also be allowed to keep unloaded rifles and shotguns locked in their vehicles while at work during hunting season.
In both cases, the weapons must be out of sight. The bill was originally sponsored by Republican state Sen. Scott Beason of Gardendale and he tells the AP that the law is to ensure law-abiding citizens are allowed to carry a firearm and defend their families.
Business will still be able to prohibit firearms from being brought into businesses.
