(WDNG) - Anniston police on Tuesday released the name of 5-year-old Gregory Caver as the child who died at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham last week. The boy’s mother, 28-year-old India Kimble, and Vonta McClellan have both been charged with capital murder.
Anniston police on Monday received a preliminary autopsy of 5-year-old Gregory that listed the cause of death as homicide. The Calhoun County District Attorney’s Office then issued capital murder warrants for Vonta McClellan and the boy’s mother, 28-year-old India Kimble. She was arrested in Mobile by U.S. Marshal’s and will reportedly be returned to Anniston. According to Anniston police Cpt. Allen George, the capital murder charges come as a result of the victim’s age being under 14-years-old.
Authorities on Friday responded to an emergency call on the 2400 block of Wilmer Ave. and found Gregory having difficulty breathing. Anniston EMS reportedly transported him to Stringfellow Memorial Hospital and later to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham where he died later that day.
According to police, Calhoun County Department of Human Resources personnel conducted a follow-up on Sunday and found a 7-year-old girl at the same residence had bruises and marks allegedly from a belt. The girl’s mother and McClellan’s boyfriend, Secret Huguley, was told by DHR that the girl should be taken to a physician for medical treatment.
Huguley then fled with her four children. She was later located and arrested by Anniston police and the children were placed in DHR custody. Huguley was charged with tampering with physical evidence and released on a $1,000 bond.
