(WDNG) - An Anniston woman is the victim of a car theft when her boyfriend takes the money to fix the vehicle and flees the state. A 21-year-old Anniston woman reported her burgundy 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse stolen on Monday along with about $800.
Anniston police Cpt. Allen George said the victim had given her boyfriend $1250 to replace the engine in the vehicle. The boyfriend allegedly had the engine replace for $450 and was told to spend the remaining $800 on window tint and graphics.
George said the boyfriend took the vehicle to Ohio on Sunday. When the victim called him the following Monday, George said she was told by the boyfriend that he would not be returning.
George said that the suspect faces felony charges and would likely be sent back to Alabama if found with the vehicle.
Police on Tuesday were unable to submit vehicle information into a nationwide database without a license plate number or vehicle identification number.
Potential suspects could face felony first-degree theft charges.
