This weekend WDNG.net passed the 700,000 Alexa ranking. As of yesterday, the ranking was right at 673,275. Alexa.com, an Amazon company, is the world’s authority on website ranking. The lower the number, the higher the site’s popularity ranking.
WDNG.net’s Alexa ranking continues to rapidly improve. Just a few weeks ago the site’s traffic ranking finally broke the one million level, which is considered by many media professionals to be the level that establishes the credibility of a media website.
It appears that the growth in WDNG’s traffic ranking is a fast moving train as it is changing rapidly. The official rank is a 90-day moving average. Therefore, it takes awhile to incorporate short term movements and immediate improvements. The site, which is operated by BuyersUSA Consulting as a joint venture with WDNG AM 14.50, continues to improve as new features are constantly added. The primary Alexa number reflects the site’s global ranking. Alexa also provides a US ranking, which is 236,794 at the moment. While the site attracts an audience internationally and nationwide, special efforts are made to serve listeners and advertisers from the 13 county area surrounding Anniston.
At this point the leading media website in the area remains AnnistonStar.com, which has a 151,176 ranking. Currently TV24.tv hovers at around the 2.3 million level. The only other area radio stations with significant ratings are Ala810.com (6,308,966) and WDTRThunder.com (14,768,261). Both of these stations experienced a significant rise starting in April. However, both have dropped significantly over the last week. Alexa also tracks Anniston101.com (12,764,256), a recently founded Internet radio station, and 979wvok.com (26,764,256). WHMA, another major player on the local radio scene, has a website. However, its traffic is too low to warrant an Alexa ranking.
