Three Alabama cities are planning to join about 100 other cities in planned demonstrations as part of a nation Justice for Trayvon day. The Associated Press reports Rev. Al Sharpton says events at federal courthouses nationwide are meant to show that concerns about the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin are not going to go away.
Kenneth Glasgow founded the Ordinary People Society in Dothan and tells the AP that his group is working with Sharpton’s organization to organize a march at noon on Saturday in Montgomery. A rally at the federal courthouse in Mobile is also reportedly being planned and a Birmingham rally is still in the planning stages. The rallies are seeking action by the U.S. Justice Department to bring federal charges against Zimmerman.
The Anniston Star reports more than 150 people gathered at Zinn Park in Anniston in a vigil to remember the 17-year-old killed in Florida last year.
