A weekend accident that killed four people has Alabama lawmakers saying they will consider new legislation to prevent people from riding in the back of pickup trucks. Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers told AL.com on Tuesday that it is foolish for Alabama to be one of the few states in the nation that allows people to ride in the cargo bed of pickup trucks.
State Reps. Wayne Johnson of Ryland and Kerry Rich of Albertville tell the website they will consider bills to prohibit riding in truck beds. The comments come after a pickup truck carrying a group of children overturned and burst into flames on Highway 431 near Guntersville on Sunday. Everyone that was riding in the bed of the truck was ejected.
