(WDNG) - A Gadsden man has been charged with depositing stolen checks into his own bank account. 29-year-old Albert Nicholis Maye III was charged on Monday with three counts of felony second-degree possession of a forged instrument.
Anniston police Cpt. Allen George said checks were stolen from an individual in Gadsden and several began showing up at Anniston branches of AOD Federal Credit Unions in April. According to George, Maye would allegedly deposit the stolen checks at one branch and would withdraw the money from another.
While the stolen checks began to surface as early as April 10, the investigation reportedly did not begin until July 3 and George said there was not an immediate connection between Maye and the victim.
According to information from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Maye has been in the Calhoun County Jail since June 5 on multiple unrelated charges. Police reports indicate Maye will be in court on August 5 in connection with the forged instruments.
