Alabama EMA workers will conduct an exercise to practice how to handle a potential Category 3 hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. According to the AP, Emergency Management Agency offficials will work with other state agencies and private groups to simulate the state’s response to a hurricane.
The simulated Hurricane Juliet will see nearly 200 people taking part in the Tuesday exercise at the EMA headquarters in Clanton. AP reports indicate the agency’s activation of new division offices in Mobile and Troy will also be simulated during the Tuesday exercise.
In May, the Alabama National Guard and state Department of Transportation conducted an evacuation exercise on Interstate 65 to learn how to convert four lanes of interstate traffic into an evacuation route in the event of a hurricane.
