Anniston Mayor Vaughn Stewart is recovering from a weekend appendix removal. The Anniston Star reported Stewart was recovering at Regional Medical Center on Sunday after an appendectomy.
The mayor’s son, Vaughn Stewart III told The Star his father went to the hospital after experiencing abdominal pain Friday and Saturday. He said doctors removed his father’s appendix on Sunday before it ruptured, telling reporters “he caught it pretty early on.”
Mayor Stewart’s condition was said to be improving saying the mayor was walking, talking and laughing after Sunday’s surgery. A statement from Mayor Stewart released to The Star reportedly said he would be released from the hospital on Monday.
