Three are believed dead after a Marshall County accident that saw a pickup truck carrying a group of children overturn on Sunday. AL.com reports a pickup truck carrying more than 10 children flipped on U.S. Highway 431 just north of Alabama Highway 79. Witnesses said the truck was travelling northbound when it appeared a tire blew out and caused the truck to lose control.
Gadsden resident Churck Harrison told AL.com that truck passed him just before the crash and it looked like it was carrying a group of children who had recently been swimming. Witnesses said they saw four helicopters and four ambulances taking the victims to area hospitals. Alabama State Troopers are reported as saying three people died as a result of the accident.
Both northbound and southbound lanes were closed after the accident and traffic was rerouted through Grant from Cathedral Caverns Highway to Alabama Highway 79.
