Are You Showing and teaching Your Children and teenagers by example How to Follow Their Dreams? On Pamela's Place Friday, 7/12/13 my guest will be Dee Remy, a working Mother Shares Why She set an Example for Her Daughter
Dee Remy grew up in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, the youngest of three children in a strict Italian home. After marrying young, having a daughter and supporting her family as a working mother after a divorce, Remy pursued her passion for literature and writing as a way of showing her daughter what can be accomplished with commitment. Remy is set to publish additional work, including novels and a children’s story.
Before settling down and starting a family, we all discover talents and passions that help inform our identity. For Dee Remy , who was young when she married and had her daughter, a passion for writing doubles as a way of teaching perseverance and follow-through.
“There are a couple of layers to this; for one, I wanted to show Livia that she can do anything she put her mind to – that she shouldn’t be intimidated into not doing what she truly wants and follow her dreams,” says Remy, author of “There Once Was a Boy ,” ( http://tinyurl.com/k2zx987).
“But that’s just one wrinkle, because I think most of us let life get in the way of our dreams, and maybe, deep down, we’re afraid to go near them – perhaps from a fear of failure, or a sense that we’re not good enough. But we wouldn’t want that mentality to lead the way for our children, and parents shouldn’t accept that in their own personal life.”
Getting married and pregnant, then a divorce that made her a single working mother, filled Remy’s days, she says. But now that Livia is a teenager, she decided to act on her passion by publishing her first novel, with more on the way.
“My daughter is on my mind while I explore, in my writing, the lessons in life young people eventually face in time,” she says. “You know, I’m not even sure if she will even read my book, but as long as she learns from my example, then it was all worthwhile.”
