An Etowah County teen is safe after falling about 100 feet off a rock ledge on Wednesday night. Etowah County Sheriff spokesperson Natalie Barton tells AL.com that a 14-year-old boy fell off a ledge in a wooded area off Buzzard Rock Road in the western part of the county after 8 p.m.
The boy was reportedly walking with a group when he slipped and fell down a steep embankment. According to AL.com, the boy was alert and speaking to rescue workers from the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, the West Etowah and Altoona volunteer fire departments, along with Oneonta and Boaz Fire. A-Med Ambulance and LifeSaver Helicopter assisted in the rescue that was reportedly slowed down by bad weather.
Nearby residents also assisted with all-terrain vehicles. Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin said he was thankful for the cooperation among agencies in the successful rescue. The boy was lifted from the ledge and transported to a local hospital and AL.com reports he did not have any life-threatening injuries.
