(WDNG) - A contract impasse between Dish Network and Raycom Media may leave some local residents without a popular Birmingham television station. WBRC-TV, the Fox affiliate based in Birmingham, announced this month that contract negotiations with satellite TV provider Dish Network have stalled.
WBRC is owned by Raycom Media is a Montgomery-based company that owns 53 television stations in 18 states. According to the television station, Dish Network subscribers will lose access to the Birmingham station if a contract agreement cannot be reached by July 31.
General manager of WECT Gary McNair says the WBRC sister station in Wilmington, NC is involved in the same contract negotiations. He tells the Greater Wilmington Business Journal he is optimistic an agreement will be reached between Raycom and Dish, saying “most of these deals get done at the 11th hour, or there’s an extension.”
