(WDNG) - The Anniston City Council on Tuesday discussed the motorcycle and music event held every August since 2004. Council members decided to table two resolutions that would approve an ABC license for the event along with the closure of three blocks of Noble Street.
Spirit of Anniston director Dianna Michaels said during Tuesday's work session an email was sent to downtown merchants to gauge business owner sentiments on the event. She received a “mixed bag of feedback” from the survey conducted with 55 different Noble Street merchants.
Michaels told the council that some Noble Street employees complained about a lack of access to their stores unless they bought event tickets. Jennie Preston of The Rabbit Hutch said she closed her store during last year's Rumble on Noble for unrelated reasons but was glad she was not in town, saying “It's not a family friendly event.”
Rumble on Noble organizer Brian Farley works with Fat Dog LLC and Full Throttle magazine, a monthly publication for motorcycle enthusiasts. He said that many merchants, including The Smoking Moose Saloon and Classic on Noble both make money during the weekend of the event. He also added that roughly $5,000 in all was raised for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and other local charities.
The council tabled any actions concerning Rumble on Noble, which is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, August 24.
