A U.S. soldier from Alabama has been killed in Afghanistan. The Department of Defense reports 18-year-old Pvt. Errol Duran Aster Milliard of Birmingham was killed when his unit was attacked with a rocket-propelled grenade on Thursday.
The 2012 graduate from Carver High School in Birmingham was assigned to the 2nd Engineer Battalion of the 36th Engineer Brigade based out of White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. This was Pvt. Milliard’s first deployment.
According to the Department of Defense on Friday, his unit was on a dismounted patrol in the Farah province in western Afghanistan when they were attacked and Milliard was killed.
According to the Associated Press, Pvt. Milliard was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Medal.
