A local legislator is fighting to allow same-sex couples to marry in the state.
Patricia Todd is the first openly gay representative in Alabama. Last week--the Supreme Court struck down a provision of a federal law denying benefits to married, gay couples.
Local attorneys have taken up Todd's case pro bono.
"I was really blown away by that. We were prepared to mount a legal fund which we will probably still do," Todd says.
Todd says she is working with national organizations to help support her case. She also plans to marry her partner in Massachusetts in September.
