Ruben Studdard, who won season two of American Idol in 2003, will return to the small screen as a contestant on the NBC weight-loss reality show “The Biggest Loser.” Alabama’s “Velvet Teddy Bear” will appear on the 15th season of the reality show this fall, according to The Los Angeles Times.
Studdard reportedly lost 12 lbs. in 2006 after a diet and exercise plan but backed off after it began to negatively affect his health. He told People Magazine that same year that he was losing weight but was also exhausted, saying “it was making me sick.” Studdard later became a vegetarian and lost over 70 lbs. but put the weight back on after divorcing Surata McCants in 2012.
Studdard will be the fourth Alabama native to appear on the NBC show. This season is expected to premiere on NBC in early October.
