State officials are investigating a case of pulmonary tuberculosis identified in a Montgomery County high school student. The Alabama Department of Public Health on Friday said a student of Lee High School in Montgomery County is suspected of having the respiratory disease and health department officials are identifying individuals who might have had close contact with that student.
Testing of the individuals reportedly began last Friday at the Montgomery County Health Department and tests will be read on Monday. The process will be repeated on August 2 and August 5. Officials with the state health department said in a release last week that they are working to notify the families of students who were in close contact with the suspected case.
Two people in southwest Alabama in May were suspected of having tuberculosis and the Alabama Department of Public Health implemented precautionary testing measures in that area.
