Alabama’s revised self-defense laws have kept a man out of jail after shooting at his nephew’s truck. The Dothan Eagle reports 38-year-old Mickey Jordan was acquitted by a Geneva County jury last week after being charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle. Jordan successfully argued the felony charges, saying he was justified under revisions the state made to self-defense laws in 2006.
According to The Eagle, Jordan was charged in 2010 after he called police asking them to arrest his 19-year-old nephew Alex Ray Jordan. Officials tell the newspaper that the nephew had gone to Jordan’s home with a wrecker truck to retrieve a piece of heavy equipment. The nephew was denied the equipment and reportedly threatened his uncle and drove in circles in the man’s yard.
The Eagle reports Jordan then grabbed a rifle and fired three times into the truck while his nephew was behind the wheel. The nephew was not hit by gunfire and reportedly did not testify at his uncle’s trial.
