(WDNG) - Anniston police have arrested a man suspected of stealing cheese from an area grocery store. 49-year-old Linley Covington was arrested by Anniston police on Tuesday for allegedly stealing merchandise from the Food Outlet grocery store on Highway 202.
Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said an employee at the store called police around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. He said the employee watched the suspect put two wheels of hoop cheese into his shorts. Covington reportedly left the store without paying for the cheese estimated at less than $9.
Sparks said when police arrived at the scene, they found Covington sitting in his car in the parking lot eating the cheese. According to police reports, Covington was also suspected of drinking at the time of his arrest. Covington was taken to the Anniston jail on misdemeanor third-degree theft charges. He was later released on a $500 bond.
