State officials are investigating cases of tuberculosis in southwest Alabama. The Alabama Department of Public Health late last week announced they are investigating two cases of pulmonary tuberculosis and suggests anyone who may have been exposed gets screened quickly.
Late last month, officials began identifying individuals who might have had close contact with the two people suspected of having TB. Dr. Karen Landers, a TB Advisory Council member said in a release Friday that the Alabama Department of Public Health will implement precautionary testing, investigation and control measures. According to the release, tuberculosis is a treatable and preventable disease.
Officials recommend that only individuals who have been in close contact with those two people be tested.
