A mine worker has reportedly been killed in an Alabama coal mine accident. WBRC-TV reports an unidentified worked died at the Jim Walter Resources Mine No. 7 in the Brookwood area of Tuscaloosa County.
A spokesperson for Jim Walter Resources told The Tuscaloosa News>/i> the accident happened after 6 p.m. on Thursday and involved one miner. State and federal mine safety officials have reportedly been notified and will conduct an investigation. The company and United Mine Workers’ safety investigators will also determine what happened. No other details about the accident have been released but the Jim Walter Resources spokesperson told the newspaper that the company will likely release more information later on Friday.
According to the Associated Press, Jim Walter Resources is owned by Hoover-based Walter Energy and operates some of the deepest underground coal mines in the country.
