Anniston’s Center for Domestic Preparedness celebrated its 15 year anniversary on Monday. WEAC-TV reports the CDP has trained more than 775,000 people worldwide in emergency response. More than 30 leaders from the University of Colorado Hospital received training at the Anniston facility prior to the 2012 theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado and, according to WEAC-TV, one of the first responders to the Boston Marathon bombing last month also attended the CDP.
Training is funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and, despite recent budget cuts, leaders tell the television station they are doing the best they can to maintain quality service. The Center for Domestic Preparedness first opened in June of 1998.
