The tornado that killed 24 people in Moore, Oklahoma last month is now being studied by researchers from the University of Alabama. The Associated Press reports experts from six schools recently went to Oklahoma to assess the storm under a National Science Foundation grant.
The research reportedly focuses at how wood-frame homes in tornado-prone areas can be constructed better. University of Alabama engineering professor Andrew Graettinger told the AP that the area around Moore has a history of tornadoes and the team will look at how homes built after earlier storms performed.
Some members of the six-school research team also worked after deadly tornadoes touched down in Tuscaloosa and Joplin, Missouri, in 2011. According to the AP, the University of Alabama is leading the study.
