More than 2,000 civilian workers at an Army post in Alabama will join employees of other federal installations as furloughs slice into staffing. The Dothan Eagle reports Fort Rucker officials on Wednesday said that 2,200 civilian workers will need to take up to 11 furlough days through the end of the fiscal year.
With the exception of the child development centers and other select employees at the Dale County post, officials tell The Eagle that all Army civilians at the installation will be impacted. The Department of Defense announced that most civilian employees will need to take the 88 hours of unpaid leave beginning in July.
The news of furloughs affecting civilian workers at Fort Rucker came the same day that The Anniston Star reported many of the 3,000 civilian workers at the Anniston Army Depot were told to take 11 furlough days as a result of federal budget cuts known as sequestration.
