Anniston leaders recognize a Model City legend who worked with community members to move the city forward. The Anniston City Council meeting on Tuesday evening took a somber turn as members of the council and audience remembered Anniston civil rights legend Rev. Nimrod Q. Reynolds. Reynolds passed away on Sunday at the age of 82.
The council designated May 18 as Rev. Nimrod Q. Reynolds Day. In 1963, Reynolds and other Anniston clergy members successfully integrated the Anniston Public Library and other establishments, but not without taking severe beatings, both metaphorically and physically.
Council member Seyram Selase said that Rev. Reynolds did a lot to move The Model City forward by not only working for equal rights for black community members but building connections between people. A memorial for Rev. Nimrod Q. Reynolds will be held at the Seventeenth Street Baptist Church on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and the funeral will be the following day at noon.
