The trial for the man accused of killing an Anniston police officer almost two years ago will be held in Lee County. The Anniston Star reports Calhoun County Circuit Judge Brian Howell made the decision to move the trail to the Lee County Courthouse after a survey revealed potential jury members in Calhoun County may not provide a fair trial due to knowledge of the case.
25-year-old Joshua Eugene Russell is accused of shooting Anniston police officer Justin David Sollohub in August of 2011 during a foot chase. Sollohub died the following day at a Birmingham hospital. The trial of Russell is scheduled to begin at the Lee County Courthouse in September.
Sollohub, a graduate of Jacksonville High School and Jacksonville State University, was only 27-years-old at the time of his death.
