More than 1,000 people gathered at a Birmingham park to support federal immigration reform. The Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice held a rally at Linn Park in Birmingham on Wednesday where an estimated 1,500 people waved American flags or signs to support proposed immigration reform in Washington D.C.
Evelyn Servin is an ACIJ member and said in a release on Tuesday that the May 1 rally was to remind U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions that “Alabama wants and needs immigration reform.” Sessions is the senator from Alabama that has been outspoken against federal immigration reform.
The Wednesday rally at Linn Park came only weeks after more than 220 people from Alabama traveled to the nation’s capital where they joined tens of thousands at a similar rally for immigration reform.
