Alabama’s Lieutenant Governor has teamed up with other statewide organizations to launch a new campaign aimed at battling child hunger. Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey was at a Montgomery elementary school on Monday to kick off the “Ending Child Hunger in Alabama” campaign, the first initiative of the newly established Hunger Solutions Institute at Auburn University.
Ivey said in a release this week that “it is an uncomfortable truth that children in our state, our counties and even our own neighborhoods are hungry.” The goal of the campaign is to move Alabama into the top 25 percent of states with the highest degree of child food security by 2020.
According to a Tuesday release from the Lieutenant Governor, nearly one-third of Alabama children currently live in families that experience food hardships.
