An ambulance stolen from a Birmingham hospital on Saturday has been recovered. The ambulance was reportedly stolen from the emergency room ramp at the UAB Hospital in Birmingham around 8 p.m. on Saturday. The Haynes ambulance was at the hospital after transporting a patient from Elmore County.
Kirk Barrett, an official with Haynes Ambulance Service, said that the ambulance was found abandoned around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday in a parking lot about 10 blocks away from the hospital. Barrett said on Monday that the stolen ambulance was equipped with cameras and UAB police have identified a suspect.
The theft was widely shared on social media. The Heflin Police Department reported on their Facebook page that more than 85,000 Facebook users were made aware of the theft in less than 24 hours.
UAB police officials were unable to confirm if a suspect has been apprehended or even identified.
