Pamela's Place guest for Friday, 4/19/13 is John Espinoza Nelson , Bookstore Bandit & Bank Robber turned author and prison expert learned first-hand about crime as his ill-chosen route through his youth and his eccentric but law-abiding, upper middle class family. He was dubbed by the LAPD as the Bookstore Bandit and was apprehended after robbing his fifth bank, never using a weapon.
During his four years in prison, John became an expert on criminal motivation and the prison system. The captive violence and fear became a time of real personal growth. He is now an expert on recidivism and surviving the penal system.
John started writing in prison and never looked back. Upon release, he wrote radio spots, videos, and other promotional material for 2.13.61 Books, Modivation Films, DreamWorks, and Maverick Records. Later credits include articles for Esquire, Details, Players, L.A. Weekly, and web assets like BigWords.com, for which he wrote the advice column, Ask Dr. Hate. A 70’s muscle car restoration hobbyist and Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge owner, John is currently a contributor to Moparmax.com.
John has written for a number of publications, and has done local and national radio and TV segments including ABC 20/20. His memoir, Where Excuses Go To Die is An edgy, smart, coming-of-age story that while mostly set in prison, also provides a real look at family, personal evolution. John’s story and blog are at www.whereexcusesgo todie.com ,
John is now doing numerous postive things to contribute to the world and is determined to do his part in halting others, especially the youth of today from making the wrong choices and decisions in life that could lead to a life of crime and eventually a life in prison. He has an amazing story to share and imperative information that all need to hear. You can listen live here at wdng.net.
