The Alabama football team practiced in full pads for two hours on Tuesday afternoon at the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility.
It was the 13th practice of spring drills as the Crimson Tide worked to correct mistakes from last Saturday's scrimmage while continuing to prepare for Saturday's Golden Flake A-Day Game.
"We are all trying to get back and get things corrected," Christion Jones said after practice. "For every team, the spring is for rebuilding, no matter how many people you lost. For us, we are just trying to get things going. It's the perfect time for us to get the young guys going and show those that came in how we practice."
The junior wide has not only gotten reps at wide receiver this spring, but on the other side of the football at defensive back as well as his normal role on special teams.
Alabama will return to the practice field on Thursday for the final workout of the spring. Alabama's 2013 A-Day Game is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. (CDT) inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. The A-Day Game is once again free to the public and will be televised live on ESPN2.
The University of Alabama's board of trustees approved the contract of head coach Nick Saban Tuesday, keeping him atop the list of highest paid college football coaches in the country. While his annual salary remains the same -- average of $5.6 million per season -- a new bonus structure was added to his current deal that he signed in March 2012 and runs through January 31, 2020. Saban's BCS playoff incentives could potentially be worth $900,000 in bonuses should he lead the Crimson Tide to a national championship under the new BCS 4-team playoff format set to begin in 2014.
Saban's BCS Playoff Bonus Payouts: If Alabama reaches BCS Semifinal game: $200,000 If Alabama reaches the BCS title game: $300,000
If Alabama wins the BCS title: $400,000
Defensive coordinator Kirby Smart gets 3-year, $3.85 million deal: For the second year in a row, the board of trustees approved a contract extension and raise for Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, and he is now the highest-paid defensive coordinator in the country, surpassing LSU's John Chavis ($1.1 million).
Smart, who has been directing Saban's defense since 2008, will earn $1.15 million next season, up $200,000 from his $950,000 salary in 2012. He will earn $1.35 million per season in 2014 and 2015 if he completes the contract extension that runs through February 28, 2016.
Assistant Coaches' contracts extended, given raises:
Fresh off his first year as Alabama's offensive coordinator, Doug Nussmeier had his three-year deal extended through 2016 and received a $90,000 salary increase. He will earn $680,000 in 2013 after making $590,000 in 2012.
Strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran, defensive line coach Chris Rumph and specials teams coach Bobby Williams received contract extensions through 2015 and each were given a $50,000 salary increase.
