The man accused of firing a gun toward an East Gadsden Office Max store is now charged in that case. Gadsden Police charged Trenton Jamario White with Reckless Endangerment and Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Building. His combined bond on the two charges is $101,000. He remains in the Etowah County Jail. Police say he was apparently aiming at a car that was travelling through, or near, the front entrance of Forest River Apartments on George Wallace Drive around lunchtime Tuesday. The shots hit a nearby Office Max store, with one going through a plate glass window.
A relative of one of the workers said customers and workers ran to the back of the store to take shelter, and no one was injured. The other two shots appeared to hit the stucco near the Office Max sign at the front of the store, requiring a CSI to use a Gadsden Fire Department ladder truck to get close enough for crime scene photos. Gadsden Police searched the area, including two apartments at Forest River, for hours. At one point the Etowah County Sheriff's Office even sent out its helicopter. Around 4 p.m. Tuesday, police say White surrendered to authorities following a brief standoff.
Detectives served the two warrants at the Etowah County Jail late Wednesday afternoon.
