A number of tornadoes touched down across Alabama when storms moved through the state last week. The National Weather Services in Birmingham has confirmed an EF-2 tornado touched down in Notasulga and about half a dozen smaller EF-1 tornadoes touched down across the state.
Two injuries were reported as a result of the storms. The Notasulga tornado packed winds of 120 mph, but according to the Associated press only one home in the Lee County area showed moderate damage. Several barns were destroyed along with vehicles that sustained damage such as broken windows and large dents. The AP reports boats, sheds, and outbuildings were also destroyed.
A strong EF-1 tornado in Pickens County with winds up to 110 mph reportedly tracked for over half a mile and caused major damage to two homes. According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, two smaller EF-1 tornadoes touched down southeast of Huntsville. Damage was widespread in Madison County as storms packed strong straight line winds and hail.
Alabama Power reported about 8,500 customers were without power thanks to the storms.
